The story behind this project

Doors as part of the office identity

An office door is a surface used every day that can also tell a story. At bunq, doors feature large quotations, stylised portraits and graphic accents. White backgrounds suit the light office setting, while dark text stands out amongst the glass partitions.

Each door in the Rotterdam office received its own design. A consistent arrangement of text and imagery connects the series while giving each space a distinctive accent.

A separate design for each door

Some doors display a large quotation and silhouette; others combine a portrait with supporting text. This variety adds interest along the corridor. The layouts respond to the door dimensions and everyday use.

A quotation needs to be readable at the intended distance. Handles, edges and available space also determine where text and imagery can sit. Cropping a portrait requires a different approach from laying out a typographic design.

Careful application to existing surfaces

Careful installation begins with the substrate: existing finishes, cleaning and material selection need to be considered together.

The door prints use full-colour printed polymeric film with a matt laminate. The client supplied the designs and assigned each to a door number. A large print needs a planned application sequence and accurate alignment. The designs cover the door surface without adding separate posters or frames, making the doors themselves part of the interior branding.

More character in the workplace

A separate design for each door brings character into the office without additional freestanding decoration. Repeated typography and visual structure create consistency while each space retains its own identity.
